From CHELLnet
The CHELLnet project is the product of discussions that took place during the EPSRC IDEAS factory "Chemical Craftwork" workshop. During these week-long discussions abiotic life, and hence the name - chemical cell, "CHELL" - was identified as a research umbrella for an exciting and adventurous research programme. The novelty, and hence the challenges, of this project lies in the break with the normal view that life-like behaviour can only arise from biological components. Instead, we are aiming at a much wider view of life, complexity and chemical synthesis.
The overall goals of the CHELLnet are to be achieved through the tight integration of the following four sub-projects:
Evolvable CHELLware towards the open-ended evolution of chemical complex systems
VesiCHELL realising the concept of the artificial cell with vesicles
BrainCHELL directed assembly of functional patterns
WellCHELL a public-domain proto-platform for evolutionary discovery of complex chemical systems
